Here is something you might not know about me. I love pumpkins. Love them! And so it was, on a cold, grey and blustery Sunday, we packed our hats and coats, hopped in the car and headed up the highway to the village of Collector, NSW, for their annual Collector Pumpkin Festival.
There was pumpkin judging, pumpkin rolling, pumpkin wheelbarrow racing and the blessing of the pumpkins! Of course what use is a pumpkin festival without a few pumpkin-flavoured treats? I greedily gobbled up a mini pumpkin pie but also on offer was pumpkin soup, pumpkin chilli, pumpkin scones, pumpkin cakes and pumpkin preserves. There were also stalls at each entrance selling...pumpkins!
There was plenty of family fun to be had on the fairground rides, at the petting zoo or even making your own scarecrow (these were a mixture of creepy and cute). By 11:30am the crowds had truly descended and we were ready to head home to a warm fire. Hot chocolate in hand, we wandered back toward the main street - me: already thinking about next years pumpkin offerings, him: shaking his head and smiling. Always shaking his head and smiling.
